Do You Actually Need an Advisor?
“Honour the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce.”
Proverbs 3:9
From Dan's Desk
A financial advisor question is actually two questions. One is financial: do I need someone managing my money? The other is harder: am I the kind of person who can handle this well on my own? Most men ask neither. They look at their RRSP, feel vaguely uncertain, and Google "financial advisor Canada" without a clear sense of what they are even looking for. That is what this week's first piece is for.
Then, if your teen started a summer job: the first paycheque is coming. What you say before it does matters more than what you say after.

Do Canadian Christians Need a Christian Financial Advisor?
https://wiseandfaithful.ca/guides/christian-financial-advisor-canada
Most Canadian Christian men don't need a financial advisor right now, and the honest case for why might change how you think about the question entirely. Dan looks at what advisors actually cost, what "Certified Kingdom Advisor" means and doesn't mean, and what most men need instead. If you have been putting off that question, this piece gives you the framework to stop guessing.
Your Teen's First Summer Job: What to Teach Them About Money

The first paycheque is a discipleship moment, and it goes by fast. Here is the conversation to have before it arrives, plus the practical Canadian paperwork they actually need to know: the SIN card, the T4, what happens at tax time. More of a dad's guide than a teen's guide.

BNN Bloomberg, July 15, 2026

Sixth consecutive hold. About 1.15 million Canadian mortgages are renewing in 2026, and fixed-rate borrowers who locked in at 2020 or 2021 rates are looking at payment increases of 15 to 20%. If your renewal is coming, the five minutes it takes to read this decision and the rate outlook is well spent.
[Article] Where Doomers Can Find Hope

Derek Rishmawy on the temptation to read every bad news cycle as evidence the story ends badly. Christian hope does not depend on catastrophes not happening. It depends on a God powerful enough to overturn them. Worth the slow read for any man whose financial anxiety has started to feel less like worry and more like conviction.
[Article] Education, Income, and 'Marriageable' Men

Young men's median earnings hit a roughly 50-year high in 2025. Marriage rates kept falling. If provision were only about income, that gap would not exist. Worth reading before assuming money is the main thing a husband and father has to offer.
The Week in One Number
17%
The share of Canadians who claimed charitable tax deductions in 2023, down from 29% in 1991. Total dollars donated rose over the same period (to $12.8 billion), but the donor base collapsed. Nine percent of donors now account for 71% of all giving, and more than half of those donors are over 60.

Scripture for Your Wallet
Luke 16:10: "Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and whoever is dishonest in very little is also dishonest in much."
Jesus is closing the parable of the dishonest manager. The lesson he draws is not about the manager's cleverness. It is about character: the way you handle the small account reveals whether you can be trusted with the large one. For most men, that means this week: look at the thing you have been postponing. The budget you keep meaning to open. The advisor question you keep shelving. The conversation you owe your kid before the paycheque lands. Faithfulness starts in the mundane. It always does.
Live it this week: pick one financial task you have been avoiding for more than a month. Set a timer for fifteen minutes. Just start.
Good News About the Good News
Sub-Saharan Africa now has nearly 780 million Christians, growing at 2.59% annually. By 2050, roughly 40% of the world's Christians will live on that continent. The church there is not waiting for resources or ideal conditions. It is planting new congregations faster than seminaries can train pastors, often in places where the gospel costs something to hold. The nones are growing in the West; in the Global South, they are an afterthought. The center of gravity of global Christianity has already shifted south.

Coming Next Week
The decade that decides everything. Next week: the financial map for Canadian Christian men in their 30s, covering mortgages, RESPs, RRSPs, mat leave recovery, term insurance, and the weight of provision in a decade that reshapes everything. If you know a man in his early 30s trying to figure out where his next dollar goes, this one is for him.
The Close
Honour the Lord with the firstfruits. Not the remainder after everything else has made its claim. The first.
This issue circles that same ground from a few different angles. Whether you are sorting out whether you need an advisor, teaching your teen what money is for, looking at a stat that says fewer Canadians are giving every year, or reading about a church in Africa with no seminary and no budget and still growing: the underlying question is the same.
What does faithfulness look like with what you actually have?
That question is worth more than a plan. It is worth a life.
Grace and peace,
Dan
P.S. The financial advisor piece is one I am especially glad to have written. If you know a man who has been putting that question off for a while, forward this one his way.
